Sunglasses Size Guide

How to find the right sunglasses for your face shape

Do you spend hours trying to decide which sunglasses will suit you? With such a huge variety of styles, colours and shapes out there, it definitely isn’t an easy choice to make! One thing that you might not have thought about is your face shape and how different sunglasses can be paired with these to create the perfect look.We have put together this handy face shape guide to help you determine which one you are and what style sunglasses you should opt for.

Measuring Your Face

One of the most important things to find out before buying new sunglasses is the size and shape of your face. There are many different face shapes and working out which one you have will help decide the type of sunglasses you suit. For this process, you will need a tape measure, mirror and pen and paper (or phone which can store your measurements.)
Step 1You will need to locate the top of your cheekbone by measuring from the corner of your mouth up to your earlobe. You will need to do this on both sides of your face as the majority of faces aren’t completely symmetrical.
Step 2Now you need to do this for your jawline. Use the tape measure to work out the distance between the starting point of your jawline (underneath your earlobe) and the middle of your chin. Similarly to step one, you will need to do this on both sides of your face.
Step 3Next measure from your hairline right down the centre of your face to the bottom of your chin.
Step 4The final step is to measure the width of your forehead from side to side. We recommend putting the tape measure exactly halfway between the top of your hairline and your eyebrows for accuracy.

Sunglasses for

Oval Faces

This is the most common shape and is used to describe a face that is longer rather than wide, and has features that are well-proportioned. The jawline is usually softer and rounder compared to other face shapes like square and oblong. If you have this face shape you’re in luck as most glasses will suit you. We love rectangular, square and aviator sunglasses in particular for pairing to this shape as they stand out against the natural curves and really make a statement.

Sunglasses for

Heart Faces

As the name suggests, people with this type will have a face shape that bears resemblance to a heart. The forehead will have a longer width than the cheekbones and jawline, and the chin will be pointed too.

When browsing, look for rectangular shapes, or consider Aviator and Wayfarer-style sunglasses, as they will make your jawline appear a little wider and give added structure to your face.

Sunglasses for

Round Faces

This is another extremely common face shape and can be identified by noticeable curves and less obvious angles, as well as the forehead and cheekbones having a similar width and chin being round.

This face type is complemented by rectangular and square sunglasses as they will add contract, balance and proportion. Cat-eye designs are also a great choice (providing you opt for ones with angular frames rather than round ones) as they are extremely flattering and help to slim down the face.

Sunglasses for

Square Faces

Square face shapes are quite easy to recognise as the forehead, jawline and cheekbones measure equally (or are pretty close).

With this shape, you will want to opt for glasses that are round or oval as they will create a more softened appearance and help to balance out your features.
